Erbette chard

Erbette chard is an open pollinated Italian variety of chard that has less bitterness and more delicate leaves than standard silverbeet types.

Erbette is perfect sauteed with garlic and chilli, in fritatta, quiche or lasagna and also through pasta. It’s tender, quick to cook and can be eaten raw too.

This week we are introducing Erbette chard into the box. Also known as Bieta, Erbette chard is a variety of silverbeet that has thin stem and midribs.

Erbette chard is often confusingly called perpetual spinach which is another variety of beta vulgaris, the same group as beetroot and silverbeet. However they are many different types of chard and we look forward to growing more for you when we can find the seeds. We work closely with Tim from the Italian Gardener who imports many varieties for us from Italy. These seeds are a product of that special relationship.
